Riders revved up for Easter Cup

Despite the constantly changing weather conditions, the Easter Cup Road Race meeting at McNamara Park Raceway was a huge success.

Featuring the largest field of entries in years, it was a fitting celebration for the 61st anniversary of racing at Mac Park.

The event marked round 1 of the South Australian Road Racing Championships, with final placings determined after four rounds.

The superbike class produced close racing all weekend.

The round win went to Jack Davis, with local club member Rusty Crane finishing a fine fifth.

Local club member and ASBK Supersport frontrunner Dallas Skeer took out the 600 Supersport class.

He then backed this up with a fine win in the Easter Cup feature race, holding off Charles Holding and Paul Van Der Heiden in tricky conditions, with Chris Greene taking out the consolation race.

The meeting also marked round 1 of the BEARS (British, European and American Race Series) Challenge.

The majority of competitors in this class travelled from interstate, and while it comprises several different categories, club member David Trotter shared the spoils with Paul Van Der Heiden in the F1 class.

The juniors also deserve recognition in the way they handled the mixed conditions.

Many were riding a road bike for the first time through the bLU cRU initiative, which aims to introduce and support young riders entering the sport.

The Junior Easter Cup saw Rikki Henry win from Arnie Schmidt and Seth Dellow, all of whom have promising futures.

The next event at Mac Park will be the Seniors meeting over the Mother’s Day weekend in May.

While the riders may be older, the action will be as fierce as ever.

In an effort to make a positive contribution to our community, the club will be turning the event into a fundraiser for the Cancer Council, with special feature races and other fundraising opportunities.

It would be great to get as much community support as possible to raise money for a cause that is unfortunately very close to many of the members’ hearts.
