Disc golf league honour

Mount Gambier Disc Golf held its League Day on Sunday with 26 players taking to the course in pleasing spring conditions.

A slight morning breeze was no match for competitors with great results recorded across the course.

Alex Costales made the trip from Adelaide for the weekend’s event and was unstoppable, claiming the men’s advanced division with a six under par.

Curtis King was on a winning streak to secure the amateur men’s scratch, combined amateur handicap and the men’s closest to pin award.

Kate Eldridge shot an eight over par to win the women’s division and Austin Holman recorded an 11 over to claim the junior top honours.

There were three closest to pins recorded on the 10th hole, with Curtis King claiming the men’s honour, Michelle Schulz in the women’s category and Austin Holman awarded the honour for the junior group.

At the end of the day’s event it was Alex Costales who claimed the round win from Justin Clarke and Daryl Pearson in the Advanced Scratch category, while Curtis King claimed the Men’s Amateur Scratch victory from Aaron Price and Andrew Young-Jackway.

Kate Eldridge kept her composure in a close disc golf battle in the Women’s Amateur Scratch category, holding off a charging Taryn Pearce and Amy Weyers who rounded out the podium places.

Curtis King continued his winning form in the Amateur Handicap category, securing the class victory ahead of Rob Marcato and Kate Eldridge in an exciting display.

Junior Closest to Pin winner Austin Holman maintained his solid form throughout the competition to secure the Junior Scratch honours, with Jessica Holman and Henry Kerin claiming second and third placings respectively.

It was a Holman trifecta in the Junior Handicap category, with Lincoln holding off Jessica and Austin for a 1-2-3 finish.

The next club event will be a league day held on Sunday, October 9, with a random format day being scrapped for the month due to preparations involved in organising the upcoming Eruption competition.
