District health leader chosen

The new presiding member of the Millicent and District Health Advisory Council is set to be Dr Kevin McGrath.

He was nominated for the role at the recent Millicent HAC meeting and it is subject to ratification by Health Minister Chris Picton.

Dr McGrath and his family came to Millicent over 30 years ago when they purchased the local veterinary practice.

He has been an elected member of Wattle Range Council for Kintore Ward for the past eight years and he has represented the council on the Millicent HAC for all of that time.

The position of presiding member fell vacant in June following the resignation of Brenton Dohnt.

The other community representatives on the Millicent HAC are Laurie Dacy, Ralph Domaschenz, Ron Wood, Graeme Richardson, Lorraine Hyland and Tony Glowacki.

There has not been a medical representative on the HAC since its inception around 15 years ago.

Member for MacKillop Nick McBride is entitled to nominate a representative to the HAC but has never done so.

Mr Wood serves on both the HAC and the Millicent and Surrounds Health Support Group executive.

The staff representative on the HAC is registered nurse Alice Brennan.
