Drug dangers raised

AMount Gambier Magistrate has warned against the dangers of methamphetamine in the Limestone Coast community.

“It is an evil drug and it’s going to ruin your life. That is what I see every day in court,” Magistrate Kossiavelos said.

The comments came recently as Magistrate Koula Kossiavelos sentenced Joey Leigh Beattie for two counts of driving a motor vehicle while methamphetamine was in his fluid or blood and contravening a condition of a provisional licence.

The subsequent offences were committed on December 31, 2022 and June 1, 2023, with a relevant prior conviction in July 2019 for driving with cannabis in his system and contravening a condition of a provisional licence.

Mr Beattie was convicted and had his licence disqualified for a total period of 21 months effective immediately and fined $1100.
