The Hatherleigh Football Club will be boosted by a number of new arrivals for the 2021 season.
The biggest signing is former SANFL player Michael Telford. Telford started his career at Glencoe and before being welcomed in the SANFL Glenelg Under 16 program and moving to Adelaide.
He played two years of Under 18’s for Sturt before breaking into the club’s senior squad coached by Marty Matner. Telford played two years of Reserves before returning home and running out for North Gambier.
In 2019 he won a Western Border premiership with the Tigers and the league best and fairest Brian Hennessey medal. Telford will join Joe Ferguson-Lane as a playing assistant coach alongside playing coach Jake Dowdy, while stalwart Matt Faulkner rounds out the panel as the bench coach.
After being the senior coach in 2019 and 20, Gerard McGrath stood down due to family commitments. Another recent announcement at Hatherleigh was the arrival of James Telford.
He also started his career at Glencoe before moving to Adelaide and has played for Mount Lofty in the Hills League recently before joining North Gambier. He is known for his hard attack on the ball and a dangerous left foot.
With the Telford duo being included into the squad alongside Jake Dowdy, Darcy Bateman, Jed Telfer, Jordan Galpin and Jack Sullivan, excitement is building for the 2021 season.
