Emergency service vehicle safety stepped up

Advanced emergency service vehicle locators have been introduced for appliances across South Australia.

The Automatic Vehicle Location (AVL) platform provides real time vehicle location data to enhance the safety of firefighters and emergency services personnel in the event of burn overs and other life-threatening emergencies.

A $12m State Government investment, AVL was initiated to ultimately improve the response and coordination of emergency resources to bushfires, emergencies and alike, across South Australia, through the installation of AVL within all vehicles.

Overall incident and emergency response is improved by using location data to not only track where crews are, but also support vehicle allocation and provide situational intelligence of deployed resources.

This provides a tactical and strategic advantage via dashboard for incident managers.

The real time application of these improvements from AVL have been witnessed first-hand during the Riverland flood response and within the last two weeks at the Montacute fire.

The initial installation of tracking hardware and software includes 1400 vehicles within the South Australian Country Fire Service, State Emergency Service, Volunteer Marine Rescue Metropolitan Fire Service and Forestry SA.
