An employee welfare initiative has won Wattle Range Council a $5000 cash prize.
It was awarded the ‘Regional Council WHS Best Practice Merit Award Winner’ at this year’s Local Government Association of South Australia Workers Compensation Scheme Awards.
“Participation in The Resilience Project’s Digital Wellbeing Series has been a valuable tool in teaching staff across our entire organisation positive mental health strategies to help them become happier and more resilient,” a council spokesperson said.
“We all know the benefits that practising gratitude, empathy and mindfulness can have on both our mental and physical health.
“Each of us are now working towards incorporating this practice into both the work environment and at home with our family and friends.”
The award was discussed at the May monthly council when the input of executive assistant Catherine Allen was acknowledged by chief executive Ben Gower and Mayor Des Noll.
Mr Gower said all staff had participated in the project and it had proved to be a good investment.
