Extended
trading allowed

One of the final pre-retirement acts of State Treasurer Rob Lucas has been to allow Millicent’s two remaining regulated supermarkets to trade on three Sundays and two public holidays this month.

Mr Lucas brings a 41-year parliamentary career to a close at the State election in March.

He has allowed the Woolworths and Fosters Foodland supermarkets to extend their trading hours on a temporary basis on December 5, 12 and 19 (all Sundays) and December 27 and 28 (both gazetted public holidays).

These trading arrangements have applied for several years and require special dispensation from the State Government and Mr Lucas through an application by the Millicent Business Community Association.

For the past 20 years, Millicent has been the only country area of South Australia to have regulated shopping hours which impact on retailers.

The IGA supermarket is not regulated as its floor space falls under the 400 square metre threshold.
