Father’s Day is a special occasion to appreciate the role of fathers in our lives. It is a time to express gratitude and love for the men who have raised, supported and guided us through life. To celebrate the occasion, we have spoken to three new fathers about their experiences – the challenges and joys of parenthood, along with their hopes for the future and the lessons they have learned from their own fathers.

Is there anything you did not expect about becoming a dad? Not really, maybe just how much time it would consume.
What advice would you give future dads? Start curling dumbbells now because you’re gonna need a set of pipes.
What is the best and worst thing about being a dad?
The best thing so far for me would have to be seeing Ava’s face and her reaction when I come home from work, her running up to me for a hug.
Worst thing would be dealing with the multiple tantrums after the novelty of getting home from work wears off.
What is something you have found a dad can do, but a mum cannot? Sleep through the night.
What is something as a dad, and partner, you appreciate about the mum of your baby/children? How much time and effort she puts into her babies especially at night and without fuss so that I can get a decent sleep for work or footy.
What do you like to do in your down time? I try to play a bit footy on a Saturday as well as game at home with mates, with most of my spare time usually with Millie sleeping on my chest to give mum a break.
What’s something you have always thought “When I’m a dad, I want to teach/show my kid.”.? Would have to be footy.
Hopefully one day I can show them a thing or two should they take that path.
