THE Wimmera Emergency Management Team and West Wimmera Shire Council have prepared Fire Ready Guides for areas of extreme bushfire risk in the municipality.
West Wimmera Shire Council chief executive, David Bezuidenhout said fire ready guides were now available for Apsley, Dergholm, Edenhope, Goroke and Harrow.
“The recent fires in our municipality have reinforced just how important it is for us all to plan and prepare for days when hot, dry and windy conditions create a fire risk,” he said.
“As we know, fires can happen anywhere at any time and we all need to be prepared.”
Mr Bezuidenhout said the Fire Ready Guides contained important information to help residents prepare their Bushfire Survival Plan, a fire map of the local area, emergency contact information and an overview of the Australian Fire Danger Rating System.
“The Wimmera 72 website is another great resource that we encourage people to use,” he said.
“The website includes important information and links to help us plan and prepare for all types of emergencies.”
If people have any questions in relation to the Fire Ready Guides or the Wimmera 72 website, they can contact the Wimmera Emergency Management Team at wemt@hrcc.vic.gov.au
The Fire Ready Guides are available at the Edenhope and Kaniva municipal offices, as well as key locations within each community.
Residents can also find these guides and other emergency information on the Wimmera 72 and West Wimmera Shire Council websites.
