Fire sparks farm machinery damage

Fire caused an estimated $80,000 damage to farm machinery on a Maaoupe property last week.

CFS crews and farm fire units were called to a header fire in a paddock on Rabbits and Glenroy Bool Lagoon Roads last Wednesday afternoon.

Firefighters were on scene within approximately five minutes and contained the blaze by putting a control line around the fires edge saving nearby livestock and paddocks.

The farmer escaped the harvester with no known injuries.

A CFS spokesperson said the total estimated damage was $80,000 with a harvester, bins and the produce stored within being lost.

“With harvesting continuing this late into the season, CFS encourages farmers to reduce the risk of fire by regularly cleaning out dust build up in harvesters,” the spokesperson said.
