Football carnival kicks off year

There was a sea of soccer at Casadio Park on Sunday, with the Limestone Coast Football Association action kicking into gear with a preseason carnival ahead of the home and away season.

The association’s 11 men’s and women’s teams competed in the carnival which provided a fantastic opportunity for side’s to showcase their skills and fine-tune game plans while preparing for the upcoming season.

International claimed the men’s cup and Apollo was crowned victor for the women at the completion of the carnival, with shortened 15-minute halves taking place across Casadio Park’s two pitches.

Over the course of the day the teams played against each other in a round-robin format, with the team that won the most games declared the winner.

The carnival featured a range of talented players from across the region and the games were closely contested across the tournament.

Limestone Coast Football Association players put on an excellent display of skill and athleticism, with the coaches able to assess their team’s strengths and weaknesses ahead of the upcoming season.

The atmosphere at Casadio Park was electric, with soccer fans from across the region turning out in droves to watch the games.

LCFA chief executive Chris Fleetwood was thrilled by the success of the event and particularly the huge crowd.

Fleetwood said the carnival provided an excellent opportunity for teams to prepare for the upcoming season while showcasing their skills to the local community.

With the season now only weeks away the excitement is building for what is sure to be another successful season for the LCFA.
