Footsteps followed

The new principal of Millicent’s Newbery Park Primary School is following the family tradition of education leadership.

Leanne Scudds is the daughter of John Scudds who held the rank of principal at such primary schools as Tantanoola and Clare.

His second successful career was as the publican of the hotels at Kalangadoo and Tantanoola and his third was as the developer and proprietor of a cherry farm in Millicent.

Ms Scudds has the tenured position for five years and the Newbery Park headship became available when Sam Currie was promoted to principal of Penola Primary School.

He filled the vacancy created by the departure of educator Anna Copping to principal of Mulga Street Primary School in Mount Gambier.

Ms Scudds was previously a long-serving classroom teacher and deputy principal of Millicent North Primary School.

As a coincidence, Ms Scudds had begun her career in education as a classroom teacher at Newbery Park 18 years ago.

In addition to Ms Scudds, Newbery Park has welcomed other new staff as well as several new students.
