Breastscreen SA’s mobile screening unit is heading to Millicent and it will provide free screening mammograms for many hundreds of local women in the coming weeks.
As before, the unit will be based in the car park of the Millicent War Memorial Civic and Arts Centre.
Local women who are eligible for screening will receive invitations in the mail and new clients are welcome to make a phone booking.
Appointments can be made by phoning 132 050, and a doctor’s referral is not required.
While breast cancer cannot be prevented, the best way to detect it early is by having a screening mammogram every two years.
Screening mammograms can detect most breast cancers, including some too small to be felt.
One screening mammogram is not enough to last a lifetime.
With early detection, there is a greater chance of successful treatment of breast cancer.
An appointment can take as little as 10 minutes, and the specially trained female radiographers are sensitive to every woman’s needs.
They will ensure the procedure is as quick and comfortable as possible.
Most women who attend for screening are reassured their mammogram shows no evidence of breast cancer.
