The Robe District Council has announced the formation of the Robe Obelisk Working Party, which will play a crucial role in exploring options for the preservation, enhancement or memorialisation of the cherished community landmark.
The working party has been formed to ensure clear, accountable communication between the council and community stakeholders.
It will engage with key stakeholders, subject matter experts and community representatives to discuss and advise on the preservation and enhancement of the obelisk.
Membership of the working party, which was decided at the August 14 council meeting, includes Doug Fotheringham, Geoffrey Dening, Richie White, Christina McRae, Sheila Dickinson, Peter Westley, Warren Tucker, Kelly Burton, Mark Baker and Grant Schubert.
It comprises 10 community members, two council representatives Marcia Dening and Duncan Young and Mayor Lisa Ruffell as an ex-officio member.
A chairperson will be elected by the members at the first meeting of the working party.
It will operate as an advisory group and all formal decisions regarding the obelisk will remain with the council.
Mayor Ruffell expressed enthusiasm about the newly appointed working party, stating she was thrilled to announce the members.
“Each of these individuals brings a wealth of expertise and a deep commitment to our community,” she said.
“Their diverse backgrounds and skills will be instrumental in ensuring that our beloved obelisk is preserved and celebrated for generations to come.”
