‘Fuelled to go’

Millicent again has a second manned service station after a break of more than two years.

The former council-owned servo on Adelaide Road has resumed trading after a change of ownership and a major upgrade.

It was closed in mid-2021 by leaseholders Caltex/AMPOL with the loss of seven jobs.

Within a day of its August 4, 2021 closure, signage, most pumps and other fittings had been removed while a 3m high security fencing had been erected around the perimeter of the site.

The 20-year lease between Caltex/AMPOL and freehold owners Wattle Range Council ended on October 31, 2021.

Caltex/AMPOL then remediated the site including the removal of soil and the underground fuel tanks.

Wattle Range Council then successfully negotiated with fuel firm K&S to buy the site for $1.1m and the sale was completed late in 2021.

A higher bid by On The Run was rejected by the council.

Meanwhile, work is expected to start in the near future on the new K&S fuel outlet at Billygoat Corner in Millicent.

All current structures will be removed and the region’s most modern fuel facility will be erected with electric vehicle charging points as well.

Meanwhile, Millicent has two other fuel outlets in the mix.

On The Run is also looking to build at Billygoat Corner having purchased the properties seven years ago while Perry’s has earmarked a site near the George Street roundabout for an unmanned facility.
