Galpin scores hole in one

The highlight of the first women’s Saturday competition at the Mount Gambier Golf Club was a hole in one by Chris Galpin.

With the pin behind the bunker on the sixth hole, Galpin hit a 3 wood up to the green and her ball found its way into the hole much to the delight of her playing partners.

Galpin was one of 12 women who battled through wind, rain and thunder in the Stroke round.

Jan Shanahan’s game was not affected as she played to her handicap and won with net 73 followed by Heather Chapman and Marie Douglas who both scored net 76.

After a two-week hiatus from golfing activities due to the coronavirus restrictions, 40 keen women returned to the Attamurra course in a three-person aggregate stableford competition last Wednesday.

Played in teams of three, the best two scores for each hole were recorded and the winning team of Gail Stephenson, Mary Kentish and Pauline Paterson finished with 84 points.

They survived a count-back with Vicki Clark, Julie Hanel and Jan Shanahan.
