Golfers step out for good cause

The Millicent Cancer Support Group recently hosted a four ball Ambrose competition for golfers and non-golfers at the Millicent Golf Club.

The Mount Burr course hosted 127 players in perfect weather and around $7000 was raised.

Volunteers from the Millicent Cancer Support Group cooked a barbecue to feed the hungry golfers throughout play.

Member for Barker Tony Pasin was special guest on the day, assisting the volunteers with the barbecue and on hand to photograph the players as they passed the clubhouse for the next hole.

The Millicent Cancer Support Group served snacks at the conclusion of play and this was followed by an auction conducted by local stock agent Will Chay.

Local businesses and individuals were generous in supplying items for the auction and prizes for the winning teams.

The father and son combination of Shane and Cade Kelly and Josh and Brayden Rowe were the winners of the Ambrose Competition with a nett 52.5

Runners up were Jamie Bellinger, Simon Beggs, Stephen Kuhl and Clark Falting with nett 53.75, while in third place were Brad Tilley, Cameron Haggett, Darryn Tilley and John Facey on nett 54.

Nearest the pin prizes were awarded to Par 3 – 3rd Hole for Women – Golfers or Non-Golfers – Jackie Sunderland; Par 3 – 5th Hole for Non-Golfers – Men or Women – Bruce Hamilton; Par 3 – 13th Hole for Men – Golfers or Non-Golfers – Ben Young’ and Par 3 – 17th Hole – All Players – Adam Walker.

The golf side of the charity day was organised by Millicent Golf Club life member Mardi Sunderland and her daughter Kristy Ryan.

A year ago, Kristy and her sister Lauren Halliday held a very successful charity day and they thought it was a great opportunity to hold the event again with all proceeds going to the Millicent Cancer Support Group.

They organised all the prizes and catering of the event and the Millicent Golf Club volunteers supplied refreshments.
