Wintry conditions prevailed last Wednesday when 32 players attended Mount Gambier Golf Club for the prized women’s monthly medal.
Players faced a very long, tricky course with difficult pin placements, back tee block markers, wind and rain and good scores were hard to produce with only six players scoring under nett 80.
Winning the monthly medal for May – generously sponsored by life member, Isobel Phillips – was Leanne Hunt (16) scoring 86-16-70 nett.
Hunt had a really good front nine carding 41 off the stick, including five pars and she also won the putting competition with 29 putts.
Runner-up in Division 1 went to Kerry Pedlar (9) with 85-9-76 nett.
Pedlar’s consistent scoring broke down to 42 on the front and 43 on the back across a round that included seven pars.
Division 2 went the way of popular new player Jess Parsons (29) with 108-29-79 nett.
Parsons played the front nine under her handicap which was enough to earn her first placing.
Two shots behind was Libby Altschwager (25), who had a consistent day registering nett 106.
Eight balls were given out to Karen Forster, Carol Davis, Kate McCormick, Marie Douglas, Jan Shanahan, Bernie Jennings, Janina Morrison and Heather Teakle.
Speciality prizes went to Vicki Clark for her shot into the eighth hole, earning herself three balls.
Second shots for A and C Grade nearest the pin on the sixth hole went to Kerry Pedlar and Lyndal McInerney respectively, while Clark also won the Kathy Ewer prize.
This week the long running traditional Veterans Day stroke round will take place sponsored once again by DJ Interiors who have backed this day for at least the last four decades.
