Governor to pay respects

The Millicent township will welcome its first vice-regal guest in over a decade on November 23.

Her Excellency the Governor of South Australia the Honourable Frances Adamson will honour the fallen by laying a wreath at the Millicent Cross of Sacrifice.

Millicent RSL members will be in attendance and will present Her Excellency with a gift of framed photographs of this granite cenotaph.

The centenary of the Cross of Sacrifice occurs next month but Her Excellency was not able to accept the invitation of the RSL and Wattle Range Council to be present at a commemorative function.

One of her predecessors, General Sir Tom Bridges, had officiated at the dedication ceremony in December, 1923.

Meanwhile, Her Excellency has a small number of other official engagements during her brief overnight visit to the region.

She will be the guest of honour at the annual presentation night of Kangaroo Inn Area School.

KIAS is marking its 60th anniversary in 2023 and it held a celebratory lunch, open day and display of photos and memorabilia in September.

The Chief Justice, the Honourable Chris Kourakis, will be the Governor’s Deputy on November 23 and 24.
