Millicent’s garden gurus have been recognised as part of the town’s combined garden competition.

The competition was run by South East Property Sales and Management and McCourts Garden Centre.

The competition was held for school gardens, small gardens, lifestyle gardens and best street – with judges facing a tough task.

South East Property Sales and Management owner Fiona Telfer said Mount Burr Primary School claimed the school garden category, with 128 McLachlan Drive at Beachport named best lifestyle garden and Millicent’s Grey Terrace named best street.

There was a tie in the small garden category between 11 Fourth Street, Millicent and 15 Park Terrace, Millicent.

“Five small gardens entered and it was a very close competition,” Ms Telfer said.

“When the three judges tallied their points, the results were a tie for first place.

“Both gardens were very healthy and showed the owners’ passion.”

Ms Telfer said there were seven entries in the lifestyle garden section, each with their own unique features.

“The lifestyle gardens had the judges oohing and aahing,” she said.

“They had an extensive array of plants, no weeds to be seen, plus clever and awe-inspiring ideas for vegetable gardens.

“They also showed ingenious use of bric-a-brac features, plus amazing uses of fences and gates.”

When it came to the school gardens, Ms Telfer said the judges felt honoured to view such amazing gardens.

“The judges were impressed with all four schools, each school had their own stand out features,” she said.

“Newberry Park’s long standing veggie garden and a very impressive indigenous garden.

“Kangaroo Inn Area School has a fantastic welcoming entrance with great signage, judges were impressed with the trout farm and an overall beautiful setting.

“Millicent North School’s orchard and veggie garden is a real credit to the school.

“However, Mount Burr Primary School’s immaculate grounds, with sensory garden, music wall, mud kitchen and bee garden was judged overall best school garden.”

Ms Telfer said, due to such interest in the gardens, the organisers were holding an open day at the winning gardens on November 6 from 11am to 2pm.

Entry will be a gold coin donation at each garden to be donated to the Royal Flying Doctors Service.
