Hard-working students receive academic scholarship support

Grant District Council has rewarded hard working high school students across the district with sponsorships.

Council annually donates $500 towards Academic Scholarship Awards for a Year 10 – 12 student studying at each high school within the district, and in neighbouring City of Mount Gambier, who resides within the Grant District Council area.

These students must also demonstrate a number of selection criteria including their schools’ values, an exemplary attendance record and intent to undertake tertiary education.

This year’s Academic Scholarship Award winners were St Martins Lutheran College’s Kyla Gordon, Grant High School’s Yenna Joyce, Mount Gambier High School’s Fionn Graney, Tenison Woods College’s Milla Rossouw and Allendale East Area School’s Angus Millard.

Grant District Mayor Kylie Boston said she was pleased to see the community’s next generation were committed to learning.

“Council is proud to be able to support our local young achievers,” she said.

“Education is essential for the growth of our young people and these scholarships provide an opportunity for students to further develop their skills within their field of choice which in turn benefits our community in a variety of ways.”

“I would like to extend a huge congratulations to all the 2023 scholarship recipients and wish them the best on their future education journey.”

Council also provided a $200.00 sponsorship to Grant High School student and Grant District Council resident Milla Prowse, assisting her to participate in the 2023 YMCA Youth Parliament Programs week-long Youth Parliament camp in Adelaide.

Information regarding the 2024 Academic Scholarship Awards eligibility criteria will be available to high schools in February 2024.
