Mount Gambier’s In Home Hospice Care has specially trained volunteers ready to provide compassionate practical, emotional and social support to those who are ill, and their families and carers.

Funded by the Hospital Research Foundation, Mount Gambier’s In Home Hospice Care has specially trained volunteers ready to provide compassionate practical, emotional and social support to those who are ill, and their families and carers.

The group provides a free local service available to residents in Mount Gambier and surrounding districts, with symptoms that can be managed at home.

This includes people with illnesses such as cancer; motor neurone disease; advanced kidney, heart, liver or lung disease.

In Home Hospice Care volunteers provide support to clients and their families and carers by being there to comfort, care and listen, and by undertaking shared activities as simple as: reading, chatting, going for an outing, taking them shopping or to appointments, helping with meal prep or light household tasks, or by giving carers a break.

The volunteer-based ‘in home’ care service complements existing medical services and is there to ease the load on families and carers by offering companionship and needs-based support that increases the chance of their loved ones remaining at home for longer.

Referrals to the service can be made by a medical or health professional, by someone who carers for you, or you can self-refer.
