History group ready for new year

Members of the Millicent-based South East Family Group recently undertook the annual stocktake of their research centre.

For several hours, they checked the group’s large collection of books, CDs, microfiche, microfilm, newspapers, maps, photos and indexes.

The group goes into recess for much of the festive season but some informal research sessions have been held.

The regular twice-weekly opening hours at the research centre resumed on January 29.

President Noel Boyle said the monthly program of guest speakers in 2022 was being finalised.

He said the history group was waiting on the State Government to update the COVID-related meeting rules for such groups.

Mr Boyle said he anticipated the group would have its annual general meeting in March while the April meeting would have the usual military theme as it coincided with Anzac Day.

On a personal level, Mr Boyle is delighted that a 40-year search for information about his colonial-era Irish immigrant ancestor Patrick Boyle has borne fruit.
