In Home Hospice Care (IHHC) hosted an information session as part of National Palliative Care Week and took the opportunity to thank Masonic Charities for their second donation of over $30,000 towards their Grief, Loss and Bereavement program.
Over 30 people attended the information session with four speakers discussing a variety of related topics.
In Home Hospice Care manager Sandi Elliot and IHHC volunteers talked about the services available at IHHC while Ebony Cunningham from Bright Legal discussed Advance Care Planning.
Danielle Tranter talked about the role of a Death Doula and In Home Hospice Care Grief and Loss Councillor Glenny Tiller spoke on her role.
Ms Elliot said she would like to thank Masonic Charities for their continued support of the community through the Grief, Loss and Bereavement program.
“We at In Home Hospice Care are fortunate to offer a free Grief, Loss and Bereavement service as a result of the generosity of the Masonic Charities Trust,” she said.
“We are very appreciative of their ongoing financial support and interest in our program.
“At In Home Hospice Care we are actively encouraging people to have open and honest discussions about dying and death.
“This can ensure that someone’s wishes for end-of-life are known and respected and can support those who you love, through bereavement.
“Glenny, our counsellor, has been able to provide emotional support to In Home Hospice Care volunteers and staff as they travel on the journey with their clients and carers to the end of life, as well as support to those in our local community who have lost loved ones.”
In just one year the program has supported 60 clients in individual counselling sessions with Ms Tiller who meets with up to four clients a week.
