Immersive weekend planned for crafty creatives

There have been two significant changes to the 2023 staging of the annual Geltwood Craft Festival Market Day in Millicent.

Ever since the event began around 20 years ago, the market day was held on a Sunday with George Street closed to vehicular traffic from mid-morning to mid-afternoon.

This allowed for stalls and displays in the street as well as a number of bricks-and-mortar traders to open their doors.

The 2023 Geltwood Craft Festival Market Day will instead be held on Saturday October 21 with the venue moving to the Millicent Showgrounds.

The trading hours have also been changed to 9am until 1pm with the stall hire fee being $10.

Details of the Market Day and the 2023 Geltwood Festival Program have just been released.

The market day has been timed to coincide with the second day of the annual long-running junior basketball tournament which will be staged at the Peter Seebohm Stadium at McLaughlin Park and local school stadiums.

The market day at the Millicent Showgrounds will have numerous stalls selling fresh local produce, home-made goods, tasty treats and art and crafts.

Contact the Milicent Show Society for stall registrations via email office@millicentshow.com or phone 0439 333 560.

On the previous evening, the 2023 Geltwood Craft Festival will be officially launched at a gala event at the Millicent Gallery.

The Rendelsham ‘Threads & Thimbles’ group will mount a quilt display in the Rendelsham Hall on October 21 and 22.

Over the weekend, IMAG will conduct walks to view Millicent’s sculptures and murals while the Millicent National Trust Museum will have an Open Day on October 22.

Another past drawcard to return over the weekend will be a display of model trains in the Millicent RSL Hall.

The festival will finish on Monday October 23 with the annual quilt convention at the Millicent War Memorial Civic and Arts Centre.

There will be an outstanding display of quilts, both at the convention and in all the shop windows and offices throughout the Millicent CBD.

The quilt convention includes interesting guest speakers, light entertainment and four quilting supplies retailers will be in attendance.
