Kentish leads the way

The Attamurra Ladies Club Championships started with its first qualifying round last Wednesday and Mary Kentish produced the top score for the day with nett 68.

She finished one shot clear of Andrea Pegler, who was followed by Carol Davis with nett 73.

The long-hitting Kentish was three under her handicap at the turn and kept her game together scoring pars on the 13th and 15th holes finishing five under.

Jill Johnson, a new player to the competition, played to her handicap to lead the ball run down winners.

The pro shot was won by Karen Forster and the second shot on the first hole was won by Jennifer Van Rijthoven in A Grade, Di Norman in B Grade and Johnson in C Grade.

This week will see the second qualifying round played with the quarter finals played next week.

Saturday’s field of 16 ventured out on the long course and for the third consecutive week the consistent Van Rijthoven claimed the winner’s voucher with 36 points.

Janina Morrison was runner-up with 35 points.

Ball run down winners were Kerry Pedlar, Josie Ashby, Marie Douglas and Donna Jennings, while the pro shot winner was Bernie Jennings.

Di O’Donnell had the most accurate shot on the sixteenth hole to claim nearest the pin.
