Lakers keep hot streak intact

The Mount Gambier Lakers remain undefeated in the CBL after their clash with the Millicent Magic last weekend.

The men’s team showcased talent with Kane de Wit leading the scoreboard, putting up 35 points followed by Simon Berkefeld with 24, Toby de Wit 17, Duncan Reid 13, Shaun Lock 7, Braiden Ousey 6 and Mitchell Kelton scoring 2 points.

Millicent proved tough competition and led the Lakers at quarter-time, 24-22.

Mount Gambier worked to come back throughout the rest of the game, but Millicent proved a tough opponent.

Millicent’s Frazer Bradley was the leading scoring of the game, putting up an impressive 44 points with Jackson Bowden with 20 points, Jack Hagget 13, Joshua Murphy 10, Kade Bradley 4, Finn Grimes 3, Harry Mules 2 and one point from Aiden Hurley.

The Lakers men managed to come away with a 104-97 win, retaining first position on the ladder with Millicent Magic in third spot.

The Lakers women had a tough challenge to complete, knowing if they won against Millicent it would secure top spot in the Southwest Women’s division.

Millicent showed an impressive defence against Mount Gambier with both teams taking turns in the lead.

Sophie Miles starred on the court with 13 points, including two 3-pointers.

Mikaela Horrigan helped the team with 12 points, Maddy Wormald scored 11 points and Cara Nulty shot three huge 3-pointers to give her 9 points.

Sarah Ritter chipped in with 8 points as well as playing an impressive defensive game, while Ava Collins and Ambah Beveridge scored 2 points each.

Jasmin Howe was the leading points scorer of the match with 24 points.

The Lakers had tough challenges and obstacles to face but with a massive shot from Horrigan in the final minutes, the Lakers were able to win 57-52 against Magic, placing them at the top of the ladder.

Lakers will host the Horsham Hornets this Sunday at the Icehouse.

The women will take the court at 11am followed by the men at 1pm.

Horsham sits sixth on the Southwest Men’s ladder and third in the women’s.
