Last-minute ladder shake-up

Round 16 of the Kowree Naracoorte-Tatiara Football League produced a stunning finish and some ladder changes that shook up the first week of the final’s placings.

Naracoorte upset Border Districts in a big victory that allowed Mundulla to finish top of the ladder after it took care of Kybybolite in its contest.

Keith sealed a top three finish with a victory over Kingston.

Saturday’s results set up a finals series that is expected to be a close and hard-fought end to the season.

Naracoorte head in to the finals in good form after defeating Border Districts in a stunning performance.

Scores were level after quarter time, but the Demons produced a big second quarter to open up a big lead and the Demons never let up until the final siren.

Naracoorte recorded a 62-point victory in the end.

Naracoorte forward Zac Peake had a day out with six goals in the victory.

Josh Gregg, Keenan Jacobs and Mitch Pulmer were strong contributors towards the victory for the Demons.

Border Districts had trouble scoring throughout the game as Mackenzie Bower was the only multi goal contributor with three goals.

Dylan Auciello, Zac Richards and Chase Bower were best for the Eagles.

Keith booked its double chance in the finals after they won a close game against Kingston.

The Crows trailed by six points at three quarter time but turned it around in the last quarter after they kicked five goals to the Saints one to get the victory.

Crows forward George Johnson was strong in front of the goals with four goals.

Lewis Hender, Callum McMurray and Billy Wade kicked two goals each to help the Crows get across the line.

Will Schreiber, Jacob Graetz and George Johnson were the Crows best players.

Kingston tried hard all game and got solid contributions from Travis Burns and James Siviour in front of the goals with two goals each.

The Saints best players were Thomas Matsouliadis, Jarryd Hill and Thomas Rogers.

Lucindale finished its season off on a high note after they overcome a determined Penola by 33 points.

The Roos had lost eight games in a row heading in to the contest and they did a great job in getting the victory.

Josh Trembath was a force in the forward line for the Roos as he kicked seven goals in the victory.

Bradley Agnew, Lachie Jones and Josh Trembath were Lucindale’s best players.

Penola’s Brodie Foster battled the game out to end up with five goals.

The Eagles best players were Jayden Eldridge, Brodie Foster and Drew Clayfield.

Bordertown had a strong four goal victory over Padthaway.

The game was in the balance at three quarter time until the Roosters kicked four goals to one to get over the line in the last quarter.

Curtis McCarthy kicked four goals for the Roosters in a strong showing.

Bryson Hinge and Petros Politos added three goals apiece as they were important contributors to the victory by Bordertown.

Bordertown’s best players were Petros Politis, Bryson Hinge and Jacob Eats.

William Rivers kicked four goals for Padthaway as he tried to keep them in the game.

Will Rivers, Jordan Bell and Kiefer Scharkie were the Lions best players.

For the second time this season, Mundulla had to come from behind at three quarter time to defeat Kybybolite.

In the battle of the Tigers, Kybybolite had played beautifully for three quarters to give themselves a real crack at upsetting Mundulla’s chances of finishing top of the ladder.

The Moots had other ideas as they dug deep in the fourth quarter kicking 4-5 to 2-1 to record a 12-point victory over Kybybolite.

James Hinge was outstanding again as he kicked five goals to help get Mundulla the victory.

James Hinge, Dylan Mosey and Nick Mosey were Mundulla’s best players.

Angus McKenzie tried hard for Kybybolite with two goals.

Remi Brown, Brad Castine and Mackenzie Ryan were Kybybolite’s best.

The finals start this weekend and on Saturday the Qualifying Final will be played between Border Districts and Keith at Penola.

Border Districts were cruising through the season on top of the ladder and everything seemed to look great for the Eagles.

Injuries to key players late in the season could derail Borders momentum in the finals and see them short-handed.

Mark Quinn will be a big loss as he is the class of the team.

Quinn uses his skills in the open once he gets the ball and sets up the play in the front half of the ground.

Dylan Schoenmakers and the Bower boys are going to have to step up and do that bit more to cover the loss of Quinn.

Keith is coming in to the game after getting the victory needed last Saturday to secure the double chance.

Coach Lewis Hender must be happy with how it all played out as the side has had some key injury concerns during the season.

The addition of Will Schreiber back in to the team line up has made the team more balanced and more dangerous when coming out of the back half and through the middle of the ground.

The Crows forward line is very dangerous and has lots of options to kick a winning score.

George Johnson is in great form and Billy Wade has backed up last season’s performance with another solid year so far.

The Crows might be the more settled team on Saturday.

Borders have had a great season, but if it is down a few key players it might not be able to cover the losses in the finals.

Keith is looking like they will start favourites.

The elimination final is the same as last year as Naracoorte will play against Kingston again.

This time the game will take place at Keith on a ground that has not been a good hunting ground for either team recently.

Kingston enters its third season where they will play in the finals and are yet to record a finals victory.

Two years ago, they played at Keith in a qualifying final, but were beaten by Padthaway.

This time around, the Saints will go in with a much different and arguably more versatile team line up.

Kingston is looking at trying to have its best team on the park at the right time.

The Saints will be hoping they can add William Watts and Chris Draper back into the midfield rotation on Sunday.

The Saints and Demons have played two close hard fought games this year when they have faced each other.

Naracoorte coach Matt Willson will have the Demons ready to do battle.

Naracoorte will be confident it can get the job done after they dismantled Border Districts last Saturday.

Naracoorte forward Zac Peake is in great form as well and he was important the last time the two teams played each other.

Kingston will need Ben Rogers to get the fist in ready to do a lot of spoiling if he is getting silver service from the Demons midfielders.

This game shapes as being much closer than last year’s final.

Both teams have matchwinners.

Rory Taggert shapes as the Demon’s x-factor in the game and which Saints player will be given the task to run with him.

Naracoorte will start favourite in this game if they are at full strength.

Kingston will not be far behind and this game should be close all day.
