Laundry closure

Laundry closure

The closure of Millicent’s commercial laundry is scheduled for the end of this month.

Formerly known as the Millicent Work Option Centre, it has provided employment for people with a disability for over 25 years.

Its companion garden maintenance service ceased several weeks ago.

The enterprises have been operated by the not-for-profit Bedford Group which is headquartered in Adelaide.

In a statement to The SE Voice, Bedford Group chief executive Myron Mann said his organisation was actively supporting its 22 Millicent employees to transition into other employment and services in the region.

Mr Mann said 20 of them had found access to other services or else employment including at Bedford’s timber plant at Mount Gambier which is undergoing a $3m upgrade this year.

“Some Millicent supported employees have chosen to retire or access other community services in lieu of employment,” Mr Mann said.

“Bedford will continue to support our employees where requested or required post the final closure of the laundry operations.”
