Lifetime baseball honour awarded

The Mount Gambier Legends Baseball Club announced three life members on the weekend, recognising many years of dedication.

Lynne O’Dine, David O’Dine and Darryl “Sid” Hosking were honoured on the weekend for their involvement in the Legends club, which was formed after a team was selected to play in the Alice Springs Masters Games in 2004.

The club formed after members decided to create a club to play in the many Masters tournaments around the country, going on to play in 44 Masters with the highlight being the World Masters in Sydney in 2009.

The Mount Gambier Masters has been hosted by the Legends since 2007, only missing 2020 due to the COVID pandemic. This year the Legends played in three tournaments with two teams from the club participating the two teams being a first for the club. The club has 106 players who have participated for a total of 2723 games.

Two individuals have played in excess of 150 games while a further four have exceeded 100 games. In the past year the club’s constitution was changed to include provisions for recognising Life Members.

On Sunday three members were recognised and awarded life membership medals at a gathering at the Blue Lake Golf Links, in front of about 50 past and present members and friends.

LYNNE O’DINE – Lynne has been part of the club since the inaugural participation in Alice Springs in October 2004, having helped organise the running of the 100 Club Draw since 2012 (now 200 Club). Lynne has organised accommodation for many away Masters Games and has been one of the main organisers of the canteen at the Mount Gambier Baseball Masters since 2007.

DAVID O’DINE – David has been part of the club since the inaugural participation in Alice Springs in October 2004, having served as president for nine years from 2009-2018 and vice president in 2019. He has been a member and player since Alice Springs 2004, having played 168 games, served as team coach 10 times, organised the Mount Gambier Baseball Masters from 2007 to 2017 and helped organise the running of the 100 Club Draw since 2012.

DARRYL (SID) HOSKING – Sid has been part of the club since the inaugural participation in Alice Springs in October 2004 and has played 132 games. He has been treasurer for 18 years since 2004, having only missed in 2013 and 2014, served as the club’s statistician and records keeper since 2004, been involved in all Mount Gambier Baseball Masters as a player and or administrator since 2007 and helped organise the running of the 100 Club Draw since 2012.
