Little athletes return to track

Last Friday in warm conditions saw the return of the Mount Gambier Little Athletics season for the 2022/2023 season.

As a centre we also had a total of 98 personal best performances.

Senior athlete Emily Lynch got the night under way with the Tiny Tots putting them through the basics of athletics while having fun along the way.

The Under 12 girls night consisted of javelin, 100 metre, 800 metre, 80 metre hurdles and triple jump.

Eliza Peters, in a season personal best, claimed top spot with a 12.15 metre throw with Annabelle Gordon and Zara Cole also coming away with personal bests.

Talented athlete Saskia Brogan claimed the 80 metre hurdles along with the 100 metre sprint.

The triple jump was closely contested with Annabelle and Darcy Hodges with the longest hop skip and jump for the night.

Eva Povey took the honours in the 800 metre finishing with a personal best time for the season.

Up and coming athlete Joshua Cameron had a great night taking out the 800 metre, closely followed by Peter Izzard and Jacob Gordon.

Peter Izzard showed he is the one to beat taking out the 100 metre sprint and the hurdles.

Jacob Gordon completed the night taking out the Under 14 male shot put with a throw of 8.85 metre.

In one of the larger groups the Under 13 boys had a successful night on the track, with personal bests in the long jump from Albert Peters, Hamish Gordon and Will Harrison.

Hamish Gordon also edged closer to a centre record in the discus, which was a highlight of the night.
