Long-time rivals face off

Senior Men

Gambier Centrals v International

Inter will take on Gambier Centrals this week on Sunday at MGA Park, with the black and blue coming off a great 7-0 win against Naracoorte.

The visitors will be looking to play like that again this week, while after starting the season well Gambier Centrals picked up their first loss last week to Apollo.

Both sides have the same record with Inter sitting first and Centrals sitting second on the ladder.

Inter head coach Tony D’Agostino believes this match will be a tough one for his side.

“It’s a tough game, it always is, the battle of the top teams is always hard,” he said.

“I’m assuming they’re going to bounce back this week and they cannot really afford to lose points against us.

“We know it’s going to be a tough game and probably made more tougher because of their result on the weekend.”

Blue Lake v Apollo

Blue Lake will take on Apollo this Sunday, with Apollo having found good form recently and coming off a great win against Gambier Centrals.

Blue Lake is coming off the bye and will be fresh and ready to get the win and hold their place ahead of Apollo on the ladder.

Apollo will have to continue to defend well, as over the past two weeks they have only conceded one goal.

On the other hand, Blue Lake has not been the best defending team as they have conceded 10 goals already.

If Blue Lake wants to pick up the three points the side will need to rely on its goal scoring.

Apollo has not been the best goal scoring team, so if Blue Lake can get a few goals on the board early it will be hard for Apollo to make a comeback.

Senior Women

Gambier Centrals v International

Gambier Centrals will take on International this week on Saturday, as both sides have been inconsistent so far during season, with Centrals winning two games and losing two.

Inter is yet to win a game in 2024, but they have still been picking up points with two draws to their name.

The black and blue will be looking to improve on its mistakes from last week after leading the game 2-0 at half time, before lapsing to finish with a 2-all draw.

They will need to play more consistently this week if they want to come away with three points.

Centrals is coming off a tough loss to top side Apollo.

Centrals played well in this game as they held Apollo scoreless in the second half, but struggled to get on the score board.

This is a game that could go either way, with the game being decided by a goal or ending in another draw.

Blue Lake v Apollo

Apollo will take on Blue Lake in the top of the table clash.

Heading into this game Blue Lake have not been in the best of form, drawing last week and losing the week prior.

Apollo have been in a tier above everyone this season, winning all their games so far in a convincing fashion.

Blue Lake will have to find their good play from the start of the season if they want to take down Apollo.

Blue Lake will have to make minimal mistakes in this game because if they mess up Apollo will make them pay for it.

Apollo will be favourites going into this game with Blue Lake likely trying to just come away with a point in this match up.

Millicent United v Naracoorte United

Naracoorte United will head to Millicent this week to take on Millicent United.

Naracoorte have not had the best start to the year as they have only picked up one point so far this season.

Millicent has flown under the radar so far this year, picking up a win and two draws.

Millicent will be expecting to pick up the three points at home in this match up given how well they have been playing lately.

After Naracoorte’s 2-all draw last week they will probably be happy if they get a similar result as last week.
