Love in the air as Millicent Choral Society takes to stage for last concert before break

Singers and musicians recently combined to present a concert dedicated to love songs at the Millicent War Memorial Civic and Arts Centre.

They were on stage for over 1.5 hours and played to an appreciative gathering of 70 music lovers including several from the Sheoak Lodge aged care facility.

The concert was billed as “St Valentine’s Day in May”.

Staged by the Millicent Choral Society, the concert program featured 23 musicians from the South East Concert Band under the leadership of Jack Heaven ss well as 17 singers.

The band’s repertoire included such favourites as “Unchained Melody”, “Come Fly With Me”, “Love Me Tender” and “Singin’ In The Rain”.

With Michael Bleby OAM as the musical director, the Millicent Choral Society performed 14 traditional

and modern songs.

The high point was the rendition of “Three Coins in the Fountain” from the film of the same name.

Another well-received item was the Lennon/McCartney classic “Yesterday”

The admission fee to the concert included an afternoon tea served in the supper room.

The concert was the third time the two musical groups had combined in such a fashion in recent years.

Thanks were extended to all who worked for the success of the concert including long-serving honorary sound and lighting technician John Mullins.

The Millicent Choral Society is now having a brief winter recess and will resume rehearsals next month on Monday nights at the music suite of Millicent High School.
