Major company takes over pool management

There will be a change of management but no changes to services and offerings for the Glenelg Shire’s pools and aquatic centres.

Last week councillors resolved to award the contract for management and operation of the region’s pools and the Portland Leisure and Aquatic Centre to Belgravia Leisure for a three year term.

Belgravia Leisure was appointed the successful operator ahead of tenderer YMCA Metropolitan Victoria based on factors such as price, policies and strategic management.

Glenelg Shire assets acting director Ricky Luke said it was noted the existing contractor YMCA Ballarat did not seek to re-apply for the contract, forcing an inevitable change of hand.

Mr Luke assured community members there would be a minimal impact, with all services and programs to continue.

“Belgravia Leisure boasts extensive experience – successfully managing more than 180 facilities across Australia and New Zealand.

“We are confident they have the expertise to ensure our aquatic and leisure sites continue to thrive and provide excellent community outcomes for all,” he said.

“There will be a short-term transition process but we assure members there will be no change to the services they utilise and love.

“Swimming lessons, group fitness classes, gym sessions – these will all continue.”

Mr Luke also thanked outgoing contractor YMCA Ballarat for their contributions to the Glenelg Shire over the past five years.

“YMCA Ballarat has been a tremendous partner and community contributor in the Glenelg Shire and has gone above and beyond to offer innovative programs, facilitate and support local fundraisers and participate in many local partnerships,” he
said.

“Their impact has been substantial and we thank them for all they have achieved in ensuring our community remains healthy, active and connected.”
