Asecond honour has come the way of Mid South East Football League umpire Adam Gilbert in the space of a month.
He was named as the recipient of the prestigious Golden Whistle award as the outstanding field umpire of 2023.
Gilbert joined the panel six seasons ago and took charge of his first MSEFL A Grade grand final at Port MacDonnell last month.
In keeping with the tone of the “Family League”, one of the officiating goal umpires was his great uncle Dave Gilbert.
He has filled this role since the mid-1970s.
The Golden Whistle was presented at the recent end-of-season umpires’ dinner at the Somerset Hotel in Millicent.
MSEFL umpires director Neil Webber also presented awards to Tim Biggins and Andrew Rohrlach in recognition of their efforts over the past season.
