Manhunt recalled at history group meet

Farmer’s son Frank Boylan was only in his early teens when his family’s Thornlea farm was the focus of a police manhunt almost 60 years ago.

His eyewitness account of that dramatic event will be told to the Millicent-based South East Family History Group at the monthly meeting at 7.30pm on February 24.

Mr Boylan will also talk about two late local farming identities: his soldier/settler father Des Boylan and Tom McCourt.

Now living in Adelaide, Mr Boylan gave over 30 years of service as an elected member to the Beachport and Robe councils.

Among his other community interests were the Millicent Hospital Board and Lions Club of Beachport and Rivoli Bay and standing unsuccessfully as an independent candidate for the seat of Barker in the 1993 Federal election.

Meanwhile, the monthly program of guest speakers in 2022 is being finalised. The group will have its annual general meeting in March while the April 22 meeting will have the usual military theme as it coincided with Anzac Day.
