‘Media rookie’ suits up for world cup gig

On the final weekend of September one of our local reporters, Amity Starick will head to Sydney as a Media Rookie for the 2022 FIBA Women’s Basketball World Cup.

Starick applied for the program covering the global sporting event in late August and was shortlisted from hundreds of applicants.

She attended an interview last Friday where she talked about her passion for basketball and how she wants to make impact with her stories around the world and locally.

Starick was offered as one of the two selected media rookies from around Australia last Thursday which means she will attend press conferences, work alongside international reporters and interview some of the best female athletes from around the world at the tournament.

The 16-year-old said it was a dream come true and could not wait to take on the life-changing experience.

“I am so excited for the opportunity,” Starick stated.

“I never would have thought this was even possible, dad and I are so beyond thrilled to be going to Sydney in September to go to a world Cup.”

Starick has been working as a local reporter for The SE Voice since February 2022, covering the 2022 Mount Gambier Netball Association season and recently travelled to the NBL1 South grand final between the Pioneers and Hobart.
