Prominent doctor and medical executive Dr Elaine Pretorius (pictured) has been recognised for her contribution to community health in the Limestone Coast following the announcement of her resignation earlier this month.
Dr Pretorius played a key role in the Limestone Coast Local Health Network’s (LCLHN) COVID-19 response, along with other areas, since becoming Executive Director of Medical Services three years ago.
She has also led the development of the LHN’s clinical governance framework and overseen the introduction of initiatives such as a quality improvement program.
Before joining LCLHN, Dr Pretorius worked in other roles at SA Health over a 14-year period.
Dr Pretorius will finish her tenure at LCLHN on 2 December to take up the role of Executive Director of Medical Services at Calvary Public Hospital in Australian Capital Territory.
Dr Alan Sanford and Dr Philip Reasbeck will share Acting Executive Director of Medical Services duties while a recruitment process is undertaken.
LCLHN chief executive Ngaire Buchanan paid tribute to Dr Pretorius.
“I would like to recognise and thank Elaine for her impact on, and commitment to, public health during her time at the Limestone Coast Local Health Network,” she said.
“She has shown remarkable leadership during the COVID-19 pandemic as our clinical lead and media spokesperson and we are grateful for the role she played in our response.
“On behalf of everyone at (the local health network), I thank Elaine for her service and wish her well for the future.”
