Mental wellbeing supported

The Lifeboat SE mental wellbeing initiative has received a $1200 boost from the Lions Club of Mount Gambier.

Lions Club Director and Community Projects leader Steve Bell said the donation was given as part of Men’s Mental Health Week and would be used locally to support counselling.

Mr Bell said the club was able to raise the funds thanks in part to the generosity of Aaron Davis from Jens Hotel, Bill Burley from the Blue Lake Golf Club and Joanne Gabriel of Gabriel’s Catering.

Club president Jill Austin made the presentation to Lifeboat SE representative Matthew Brooks at the club’s den at Hastings Cunningham Reserve.

Mr Brooks said he greatly appreciated the donation.

Lifeboat SE was set up by people who have experienced high levels of stress, anxiety and depression and family members who have worked through tough periods with loved ones.

It has the motto ‘local mates supporting local mates’.

The group helps provide a safe and relaxed environment for discussions, with members providing insights into how they have managed stressful situations using available resources as well as help and support from family, friends and local services.

Lifeboat SE meets monthly at City Hall. Visit www.lifeboatse.com for further information.
