Millicent Cup day money flows

The Millicent Racing Club has announced John Chay &Co as the naming rights sponsor of the 2023 Millicent Cup.

Club president John Payne made the official announcement before invited guests at brunch on Sunday at the Millicent racecourse.

Mr Chay has worked as a stock agent in Millicent for over 25 years and has been a keen supporter of both the club and racing in general.

The announcement coincided with the lucky drawer for members of the 600 Club.

G-Square together with Bowman and Bowman now have naming rights for other races on the nine-event card as well as tickets to the prestigious Redelva Luncheon in the Members’ Dining Room.

Redelva was a champion Millicent horse which won 21 top races and $1.8m in stake money.

Its owners were Greg Varcoe (also its breeder and trainer) along with the late Bill Walter and the late Reg Holloway.

The 2023 John Chay & Co Millicent Cup will be run at the Allan Scott Glenburnie racecourse on Sunday, May 28 and it is the Millicent Racing Club’s sole meeting for the year.

Mr Payne and his committee will spend the coming month fine-tuning all hosting arrangements for the cup as well as the new-look Calcutta at the Millicent RSL Hall on May 26.

Committee member Fiona Telfer said buses will be available from Millicent and return on Cup Day.

“Entry and membership tickets will soon be available,” Ms Telfer said.

“Tickets are available for the Redelva luncheon by contacting the secretary Naomi Winter on 0459 428 291.”
