Millicent show best in decades

The audited figures are in and they reveal November’s Millicent Show was the most successful in the 21st
Century.

The gate-takings helped the Millicent Show Society to generate a healthy surplus in the 2021 calendar year and bolster its cash reserves.

Society president Neville Copping presented an upbeat report to his 22 fellow members when the Millicent Show Society recently held its annual general meeting at the showgrounds.

Mr Copping listed the number of grounds improvements in the past year and acknowledged the efforts of the Work-for-the-Dole participants.

He said the Millicent Show Society had successfully met the challenges posed by the COVID protocols and he thanked Brett Keatley for overseeing the compliance arrangements.

“A highlight was the opening of the renovated Vera’s Kitchen,” Mr Copping said.

“Increasing numbers are using our RV park.

“Regarding the Millicent Show in November, it was the best attended this century.

“We had record numbers in the motocross section while the supersize video screen was a success.

“Several sponsors met the costs of hiring the video screen.

“The demo derby went well and we thank Jim Garner for organising it.

“The number of entries trebled for the ride-on lawnmower races while there were good numbers in the horses section.”

However, Mr Garner did lament the absence of the shearing and cattle sections from the 2021 Millicent Show.

“We must work to get them back for this year’s show,” he said.

Wattle Range Mayor Des Noll temporarily took the chair to conduct the election of officers.

Mr Keatley declined a nomination to be president but was elevated to the position of senior vice president.

Mr Copping was elected unopposed as president and he has filled this role since 2017.

All other executive and committee positions were filled unopposed with the exception of junior vice president.

Sandy Bell defeated Klaus Emmerich in a secret ballot for one role.

The other office-holders are Sue Vanderheul (secretary), Bev Copping (treasurer), Lynne Stupple (assistant treasurer), Helen Cranage (publicity officer) and Michael Schultz (auditor).

The 10 members of the general committee include immediate past president Jim Garner.

The five Millicent Show Society Patrons are unchanged: Mr Noll, Brian Foster, Ada Gurney, Garth Huppatz and Neville Hutchesson.

There was unanimous support for the nomination of three new life members: Mr Copping and Ian and Barbara Nitschke.
