Millicent siblings prepare for ride of their lives

A25-hour journey by car awaits a pair of Thornlea teenagers as they head to faraway Rockhampton in Queensland next month for the national motocross championships.

Brother-and-sister Tom and Emily Lambert have shared a passion for the extreme sport since their younger days.

Now aged 15, Tom first raced competitively when he was only eight-years-of-age.

At around the same time, Emily was six and is still racing as a 13-year-old.

They have since clocked up thousands of kilometres on the family farm as well as competitive circuits.

The sports does have its spills to go with the thrills.

Emily has had 18 fractured bones while Tom has endured 10 such breaks.

Motocross racing also comes at a financial cost and the Lambert family has appreciated donations and sponsorships from local organisations and businesses.

Millicent Rotary Club president Peter Bateman said it was appropriate to provide the Lamberts with a grant.

“Rotary likes to help young people and we are promoting Millicent as well,” Mr Bateman said.

Similar sentiments were expressed by Lions Club of Wattle Range Lioness secretary Annemarie Goode.

“We like to support the youth of our town and district and we are proud that Tom and Emily will be representing SA,” Ms Goode said.
