Minor premiers to face Kingston in ‘do-
or-die’ prelim final

Mundulla and Kingston will face off in the preliminary final for the right to meet Border Districts in the grand final on Saturday at Bordertown.

Both teams will come into this contest after far different performances.

Mundulla lost to the Eagles and came away with a few injury concerns.

Key forwards Darcy King and James Hinge are big question marks as to whether they will be fit to play after looking like they hurt their hamstrings against Border Districts.

Mundulla still has the team to get across the line without both players, but that might mean that Jake McGrice spends time in the forward line taking away his amazing ball-winning ability around the stoppages where he is so damaging.

Kingston has a settled defence now with Jarryd Hill, Tom Rogers and Jack Tapfield all key backmen the Saints rely on to get the job done each week.

The midfield battle looks like it will be a cracking one as well.

Mundulla gets great service from the Mosey boys Dylan and Nick.

They provide great ball-winning ability and use the ball beautifully by foot to hurt teams.

Kingston’s Thomas Masouliadis had a day out the last time Kingston played Mundulla and he will likely match up head-to-head against one of the Mosey boys.

Kingston’s depth in the midfield is a big key to why they have made a run in the finals.

Jack Armfield, Ben Warner, William Watts, Ethan Murdock and Chris Draper can all go in the midfield for stints if the Saints need to make a change.

Kingston gets great service from ruckman/forward Jack Harding.

Kingston also has a lot of firepower in the forward line with James Siviour, Todd Lockwood and William Wiseman being able to kick a bag of goals on their day.

Mundulla will plan for this and a match-up of Tom Gaden on Todd Lockwood Would be an interesting battle if it came about.

Nathan Studham could be the man who swings the advantage the Tigers’ way.

This is the kind of game you want in a preliminary final.

Mundulla were knocked out of last year’s finals in the same final and this time they will want to get back to their favourite day of the year.

The Tigers will be the favourite to win the game when it starts, but they better not give the Saints a look in at the half-time break as the Saints have shown they are the third-quarter specialists so far in the finals.
