Mount Gambier bowlers hit the road

The Mount Gambier Bowls Club had a busy week with both Open Midweek Pennant teams on the road for round 6 fixtures.

The Reds travelled to take on Port MacDonnell Blue and returned home with the 8 points with a 59-37 shot win.

The rink of Gary Williams, Jim Philpott, Kym Jones and Bryan Vorwerk led their opponents all day for a 33-16 win while the rink of Maryka Heaver, Ray Hutchesson, Daryl Raneberg and Ian Von Stanke overcame their opposition for a 26-21 win.

The valuable 8 points lifts the Reds into second spot on the ladder ahead of the round 7 clash with Mount Gambier RSL Red.

The Blues travelled to Naracoorte and suffered a narrow 1 shot loss.

The rink of Barb Milstead, Gary Widdison, Steve Smith & Ron Cox were able to secure 2 points for the visitors with a 23-17 win but were unable to cover the other rink with the final result being a 40-39 win to the home team.

The Blues returned home sitting in third spot and will be looking to the round 7 clash with Port MacDonnell Blue to improve their position.

Friday Ladies Pennant Round 7 action saw the Mount Gambier Ladies on the road to Lucindale and continued their excellent start to the year with a 59-33 win.

Wins on both rinks secured the 8 points, lifting the ladies into second spot on the ladder.

The stars of the day were the rink of Gaylene Leggett, Mavis Edgecumbe, Maria Stabler and Beryl Versluis who enjoyed a good day on the green with a 39-14 win.

The round 8 trip to Beachport to face the local Reds is the next challenge.
