MP officially sworn in for second term

The paperwork has been completed and sitting Liberal Nick McBride has been returned for a second term as the Member for MacKillop.

The official Declaration of the Poll result for the March 19 election occurred on Wednesday in the Tatiara District Council chambers at Bordertown.

According to centuries-old convention, returning officer for MacKillop Karen Johnstone invited all five candidates to speak at this public assembly.

Mr McBride was the only one present and he made these remarks.

“Thank you to my family, friends, staff and my loyal group of Liberal party volunteers who worked so hard during the election campaign,” he said.

“I will continue to work and advocate for my constituents.

“It is a privilege to be voted in as your voice in Parliament of South Australia. I will work with the new Labor Government to ensure their election commitments are fulfilled.”

His is now the safest Liberal seat as he captured over 72% of the two-party preferred vote.

Meanwhile, Mr McBride is set to learn the outcome of his bid to be Opposition Leader when Liberal MPs gather in Adelaide in the coming days.
