Mundulla tears away with final blitz

Mundulla tears away with final blitz

Mundulla used a fourth-quarter push to break away from Keith after a tight first three quarters in Kowree-Naracoorte Tatiara action on Saturday.

The Tigers are chasing Border Districts for the top spot on the ladder and got the victory they needed over the Crows by 28 points.

The game was a tight affair with only two points in it at the last change of ends.

Mundulla kicked 4-3 to 0-1 in the final quarter to pull away and take hold of a top-two finish at the end of the minor rounds.

James Hinge proved to be hard to stop as he kicked six goals in the victory.

Jack Guy helped with three goals.

James Hinge, Reagan Tink and Nick Mosey were Mundulla’s best players.

The Crows could not find their usual spread of goal kickers they get from week to week as they had just three goal kickers for the game.

Blake Read kicked four goals and Lewis Hender added three to help Keith stay in the game for the majority of the contest.

Naracoorte kept their final three chances alive after a gritty tight victory over Kingston on Saturday.

Both sides were missing key players, but the players on the oval gave it their all in the wet conditions.

The Saints led by 11-points mid-way through the fourth quarter and looked like they might get home.

The Demons used a late push and got across the line by two points after Sam Willson kicked the last two goals of the game.

Sam Willson and Zac Peake kicked three goals each for the Demons in the win.

Keenan Jacobs, Nathan Davey and Matthew Maney were Naracoorte’s best players.

Jack Harding was the only Kingston player able to kick multiple goals with two.

Thomas Matsouliadis, Travis Burns and Jack Harding were the Saints’ best players.

Border Districts came from behind in a close game against Kybybolite.

The Eagles were behind at halftime and three-quarter time and needed a big fourth quarter to overcome a gallant Tigers team.

Border Districts kicked 4-1 to 1-3 in the fourth quarter to get the win by 12 points.

Mackenzie Bower kicked four goals and Mark Quinn added three goals in the victory.

Sam Pridham, Dylan Auciello and Isaac Hewson were the Eagles’ best players.

Brad Castine, Stephen Craig and Billy Laurie helped keep Kybybolite close all game with two goals apiece.

William Thorp, Billy Laurie and William Shepherd were the Tigers’ best players.

Penola held on to beat Padthaway by two points on Saturday after the Lions made a fourth-quarter comeback.

The Eagles led at every change by double digits and had a 19-point lead at the final change of ends.

Padthaway tried to make a winning run in the fourth quarter but bad kicking for goal hurt them.

The Lions kicked 2-6 to 0-1 in the last quarter to go down by two points in a close finish.

Drew Clayfield kicked three goals in the victory of Penola.

Jayden Eldridge, Gus Eckermann and Brock Egan were the Eagles’ best players.

Thomas Cooper led Padthaway’s goal-kicking with two goals.

Jacob Fiebiger, Daniel Menzel and Nathan McCarthy were the Lions’ best players.

The Roosters got out to an early lead and by half time they were 34 points clear and in control of the game.

Bordertown held Lucindale to one second-half goal as they recorded the strong victory.

Curtis McCarthy and Zac Mclellan kicked three goals each in the victory.

Bryce Damin, Tyson Hoffmann and Petros Politis were the Roosters’ best players.

Lucindale could not find many goal-kickers for the game as they got their two goals from the boots of Nick Cane and Henry Tregoweth.

Luke Kelsh, Bradley Agnew and Matt Gould were Lucindale’s best players.

ROUND 12 PREVIEW

Mundulla v Kingston

Round 12 this week and the game of the round would be Mundulla vs Kingston.

Mundulla will go into the game as heavy favourites at home as they will be at near strength and on their home ground.

Mundulla has been clicking lately and is on a five-game winning streak.

James Hinge has been in red-hot form in front of the goals with 15 goals in the last three games.

James has kicked at least four goals in six of the last nine games.

Kingston will likely let Ben Rogers get the first crack against him.

Jack Harding has been sent to stand him as well at times as he has the athleticism to at least make it tough on James.

Jack has been in great form and might welcome the challenge.

Kingston will need to at least halve the midfield battle with the Tigers’ midfield to have any chance.

Who matches up with Jake McGrice will be a big key.

Campbell Watts will be back in the team to help generate clearances.

Kingston has the forward line to trouble the Tigers.

The Saints will need to get the ball down there often and in the hands of James Siviour or Todd Lockwood.

Both players are deadly kicks in front of the goal.

Travis Burns and Chris Draper are two players who can set up shots for the Saints players with smart quick thinking passes if they find space.

Kingston might be without a few key players, but their system has held them in a good position in games this year.

Mundulla should get the victory at home, but Kingston will welcome the challenge on Saturday.

Keith v Bordertown

Keith is at home against Bordertown and the Crows will be looking to find a way to bounce back after their loss to Mundulla on Saturday.

The Crows are battling a few injuries at the moment and so these kinds of games can be a danger against a team with nothing more to play for than trying to upset a top team’s double chance chances.

The return of a favourite son in Will Schreiber will help the Crows in the run home and finals.

Will provides a lot of run off the half-back line and can cut a team to shreds if he is allowed a lot of space.

Keith needs to win this game as they are looking to get a double chance.

Their final three rounds present tough challenges.

Bordertown will look to Jacob Eats and Thomas Whittlesea to kick a winning score.

Thomas Whittlesea missed the victory against Lucindale, so the Roosters will be hoping to have him back in the team.

The last time these two teams played, the Crows got up by a point.

This game should be a good contest but the Crows should win more comfortably by 4-5 goals this time around.

Penola v Border Districts

The battle of the Eagles takes place at Penola on Saturday when Penola host Border Districts as Round 12 of the Kowree Naracoorte Tatiara Football League season kicks off.

Penola has been on good form recently with good fighting performances against Naracoorte and Kingston and recording a victory over Padthaway on Saturday.

Penola has a really good chance to finish this season off strong with a favourable fixture in the last four rounds.

Penola will probably struggle against Border Districts, but after this game, they face teams in a similar position as they are.

Dylan Schoenmakers might be looking at this game to try and help himself in the league goal-kicking race.

Dylan is currently second behind Mundulla’s James Hinge by a goal.

Naracoorte’s Zac Peake is in third place just two goals behind Schoenmakers.

Border Districts should get enough supply to Schoenmakers and the rest of the Border Districts forwards to win this game comfortably.

Naracoorte v Lucindale

Naracoorte are at home against Lucindale and the Demons should continue their run of form against the Roos on Saturday with a big victory.

Naracoorte will likely welcome back Matt Willson and Rory Taggert into the team and those two guns will be hard to contain for Lucindale.

Lucindale has only kicked more than eight goals in a game twice this season and I cannot see them scoring enough goals to put the Demons in any danger.

Josh Trembath has done a good job of at least providing a target for the Roos players to aim for, but Josh has only kicked four goals in the last five games.

Country football can be funny sometimes when the most amazing upsets happen.

This game I think will not be one of them despite the rivalry that Naracoorte and Lucindale have.

Naracoorte comfortably.

Kybybolite v Padthaway

Kybybolite head into the game against Padthaway as arguably the favourite due to the game being at home.

The Tigers are playing some great footy for a team that has won just one game this season.

The Tigers’ competitive game style comes down to their defensive approach as amazingly they are hard to score against.

Kybybolite finds it hard on the other end to consistently score enough to win games.

Kybybolite has pushed top-five teams Kingston, Mundulla and Border Districts in matchups this season without falling over the line.

Billy Laurie is a gun and the Lions will need to stop him.

This game could come down to the battle of who kicks more goals between Padthaway’s Daniel Menzel and Kybybolite’s Stephen Craig.

The Tigers at home look like the safer pick.
