Kalangadoo v Hatherleigh

Kalangadoo celebrated Australian Indigenous Round with both clubs joining the football teams to participate in a pre-game smoking ceremony performed by Tim Brennan.

The match started at a quick pace with both respective goal circles finding space with ease and converting accurately.

Hatherleigh’s Maddie Pulmer and Demi Vanderhorst worked overtime to unsettle the Kalangadoo defence of Lara Munro and Reanna Wetherall.

Erin Watson and Rosie Nettle worked hard to find the space in the mid court with Kalangadoo making them work hard for every ball.

Kalangadoo was the first team to settle and take a slight advantage going to the first break 19 to 15.

Both teams remained unchanged going into the second quarter, which was again an even contest.

Hatherleigh tightened up its full court defence and caused mid courts turnovers to give their goalies plenty of scoring opportunities.

The Eagles finished the quarter strong and able to reduce the margin to three goals at the main break.

Kalangadoo made just one change at the main break, bringing Georgia Duncan into Goal Defence and Lara Munro moving back to Goal Keeper.

Hatherleigh remained unchanged.

The new defensive combination had an immediate impact on the momentum of the game with Georgia Duncan settling quickly into the game to combine with Munro to turn the ball over for Kalangadoo and add scoreboard pressure to allow the Magpies to go to the final break 55 to 42.

Hatherleigh maintained their work rate for the final quarter but were unable to reduce the margin.

Evie Sealey moving and shooting well for her team this quarter.

TThe Hawks led by nine goals at quarter time and continued to apply plenty of pressure, with some floating through the middle making it hard for Nangwarry to bring ball down the court to their goalers.

Kongorong goalers really started to move ball around this quarter well even with some great defence from Nangwarry’s Kayla Gray who was taking numerous intercepts.

Main break score was Nangwarry 8 to Kongorong 27, with the Saints then making changes putting Cassie Dinnison to Wing Attack, Tahlia Wilson to Goal Attack and Hayley Vanderhorst to Goal Shooter, which seemed to have a positive impact for the side.

Through Dinnison, the Saints were able to drive hard onto the ring with some patient feeding.

Wilson also stepped up providing plenty of options for the Nangwarry feeders and finishing off well.

Carly Ploenges and Gray continued to work hard with Gray still intercepting numerous balls even though Tilah Buckingham really moved and positioned well for her team.

Kongorong held a 26-goal lead going into the final quarter, again picking up its defence in the finaal term making Nangwarry’s goalers work hard.

The Saints started to make poor choices due to fitness in the attack end, with Lightbody and Riley Buckingham picking off numerous balls.

Nangwarry’s Alice Circelli picked up this quarter, running well for her team and picking off numerous balls and having a good tussle with Perry while Gray continued to get hands to many balls.

Any turnovers Mount Burr took in defence were closely contested by Robe, with pressure over passes causing passing errors.

The Carter sisters continued to score with accuracy, making it difficult for Mount Burr to stem scoring opportunities.

Schultz drove hard into the circle, creating space and a presence for Easterby and Payne to feed.

Robe continued to make the most of turnovers which ended up making a difference on the score board.

Hunter continued to feed the goalies with precision passes and Robe’s accuracy in goals helped them to a solid win.
