Music tour to be held at Mil Lel Hall

The Mil Lel Memorial Hall will next month host a music tour as part of the Festival of Small Halls.

The Festival of Small Halls is a music tour, with talented musicians travelling around Australia and playing at small rural halls.

This festival has been running for 10 years, but this is the first opportunity for the Mil Lel Hall to host an event.

The lineup for the September 10 event will start with local musician Gabriel Strachan, a 13-year-old singer, songwriter and multi-instrumentalist. Some of the instruments he plays include the piano, guitar, drums, bass, trombone and harmonica. Gabe is a regular busker around town and has performed at some fantastic community events such as the Australia Day Breakfast and Blue Lake Carols.

The program also includes Chris Tamwoy, an award winning First Nations singer, songwriter and musician with extensive awards including national NAIDOC Youth of the Year. His guitar-tap style and vibrant personality see him in high demand for gigs across Australia and the USA. He’s played some of Australia’s largest music festivals.

Mal Webb and Kylie Morrigan round out the line up. Mal has been called a vocal adventurer, multi-instrumentalist and looping beatboxer songwriter. He sings his brain provoking songs using different vocal techniques, guitar, mbira, slide trumpet, trombone, chromatic harmonica and a loop recording pedal called Derek.

Kylie is a violinist who has played with Stevie Wonder, Barry White and The Seekers as well as the Orchestra Victoria. She currently enjoys a range of styles including electro swing, folk and contemporary classical.

The night will kick off with a sausage sizzle from 5:30pm and doors open at 6:30pm.

The hall’s bar will be open on the night and supper will be available at interval, with funds raised to contribute towards an update of the venue’s kitchen.

Online tickets and further information can be found at www.festivalofsmallhalls.com/mil-lel-2022 while paper tickets can be purchased at the Mil Lel Hall on August 20 from 1-3pm.
