New competition struck by last minute bouncer

The start of the new-look Millicent Naracoorte Cricket Association was thrown into turmoil on the weekend with the late withdrawal of the Kingston and Kybybolite clubs from the expanded competition.

Both clubs could not summon enough players and so have decided to sit out the entire 2021/22 season.

A total of four matches were originally scheduled to be played on Saturday on ovals at Mount Burr, Naracoorte, Kingston and Furner.

However, Association officials opted to cancel all four fixtures without a ball being bowled.

Play is now expected to get under way on Saturday but a draw was not available when this edition went to press.

It is expected that this will be published in Thursday’s edition of The SE Voice.

The Millicent Naracoorte Cricket Association will now start its new era with nine clubs – Robe, Millicent, Mount Burr, Lucindale, Beachport/Furner, Rendelsham, Townies, Millicent Footballers and Warriors.
